“Um… Luke?” Flora knocked on the doorframe of where Legal sat working. She was still quite unsure of what to call him.
The older Luke looked up. “Hm? What is it?”
“Oh… well, it’s just…” the girl said softly. “Dinner’s ready downstairs…”
Legal looked back down at the pocket watch he was fiddling with. “Not hungry,” he muttered. He picked up a small screwdriver and began to turn the cogs nervously.
Flora entered the room and looked at his work over his shoulder. She knew that he was planning on fixing this device so he could return to his time of origin. Blushing, she spoke softly, “Do you have to leave?”
The young man nodded blankly, still intent on his project.
“I… she began, putting her head on his shoulder. Slowly, she snaked her arms gently around his neck, holding him in a warm embrace. “But I like you here.” She turned her head only slightly, brushing her lips against his jaw.
A feeling like an electrical charge rushed up Legal’s spine as stopped in his tracks, and the watch dropped with a clatter on the table. Finally, he was able to produce an audible reply. “Maybe a little longer wouldn’t hurt.”
